Goose had been asked to return home for a few days to help out since the ongoing fight against the Queen of the Crown had seen more and more resources being used and Walsh had recalled Goose back to assist. His first mission back had been to escort Ambassador Waldo on Ranger One on a research mission after they had encountered some anomalies near Saturn, “okay Waldo,” he said as he powered down the ship, turning to face him, “you’re the expert in Andorian hyper relay stations, what do you think knocked out the unit?”
“As soon as it’s been established,” Waldo said dryly, “you’ll be the second to know,” he started typing in his calculations, “I’m picking up some strange hyper space distortions,”
To the surprise of no one Goose was rather impatient when it came to waiting, something was happening out here and he wanted to be able to investigate so that he could find out what was causing these disturbances.
“Well what do the instruments say?” he wanted to know, rather impatiently, even though barely any time had passed since the last time he’d asked.
“Nothing definite,” was Waldo’s response, “we’re getting interference,”
“Do you think something knocked out that station on purpose?” Goose questioned.
Waldo glanced back at him, “Saturn is so big, anything could be lurking in its shadow,” they looked at the AI and saw the readings that Waldo was trying to make, “increasing computer scans …fascinating,” he mused.
“Great Howling Hopping …” Goose groaned when he saw a familiar space disturbance, “the crown armada,” they watched the influx of ships appear.
“The Queen must have a new hypershunt design,” Waldo theorised as Goose flew the ship closer to the Armada, “where could she get such power?” he was horrified at what the implications meant.
“We’ll ask questions later,” Goose grunted, “hang on,” he fired up Ranger One and got the attention of some of the crowns small ships and drew them away, they were firing on him as he did, he was rather gleeful as he dodged the enemy fire.
Waldo did not share Goose’s enthusiasm.
“How does the idea of fleeing for our lives appeal to you?” Waldo groaned at Goose’s enthusiasm as he dodged the lasers and whooped as he dove in and out of the line of fire.
Suddenly they were caught in a tractor beam, Goose’s grin widened as he pressed more buttons, “hang tight Waldo,” he told his passenger and soon he punched his way through and turned the ship around so he could directly fire at the main larger ship, “hey right there, surprise suckers,” he fired directly at the ship and hit it so that it would be destroyed.
“Yahoo!” He shouted, triumphantly raising his fist as he looked back at the explosion. “Let’s high tail it out of here,”
“No wait,” Waldo protested, “we’ll bring the wreckage along for analysis,” it was Waldo’s turn to press a button and soon they were dragging along a floating piece of debris behind Ranger One.
Goose grinned, “I was just going to suggest that,” he remarked casually.
“Then you’re quite brilliant,” was Waldo’s retort as he glanced back at him with a head tilt . Goose merely grinned sheepishly at him.
