Goose had received an urgent update from Niko that Kirwin was under attack from the Queen of the Crown and that the defence shields were down, this had been followed by Captain Foxx ordering him to meet them en route so they could provide assistance til a fleet was prepared.

“All interceptors let’s show them we’re here,” Zack commanded as they flew towards the Crown’s fleet of ships.

At his command they opened fire and flew away, drawing the attention of the Crown’s armada “I think they noticed us,” Doc remarked.

“Eat light rock head,” Goose declared, firing at the enemy ship in front of him.

“Target locked,” his AI replied and made the direct hit. Only for one of the remaining ships to return fire and Goose’s interceptor took the direct hit.

“Goose we’re hit,” his AI told him and the interceptor began a downward spiral.

“Hello Kiwi, I’m coming in,” he broadcast before crashing into the ground, the interceptor skidding along the ground and finally crashing into a rock before it came to a stop.

Goose took off his helmet, dazed for a few seconds before he finally climbed out of his crashed interceptor, Walsh was going to love hearing about this one.

Niko had run over to his crashed ship along with some Kiwis.

“Did someone call for help?” Goose asked, grinning slightly.

“I’ve seen better landings in my time,” she remarked, hands on her hips as she stared up at him.

“Eh, we were out of fuel anyway,” he shrugged, “we used up everything in the dash from Fandom,”

“Where’s the space navy?” She asked.

“There’s a taskforce assembling but it’ll be days before it gets here,” he said, raising an eyebrow, “meantime, we’ll have to do,” he glanced up as Doc and Zach landed their interceptors.

“Yo, let’s get these supplies removed,” Zack ordered.

It wasn’t long before everyone started unloading the supplies that they’d brought with them.

“Glad you could make it,” a Gherkin told Doc.

“Yeah and so I am I,” he exclaimed, “I just love parties,”

As the sun set and the night settled, they all waited for the Crown to make its move, “I don’t like it,” Goose grumbled, “it’s too quiet out there,”

“They’re up to something,” Niko agreed,.

“Maybe a couple of us should have a look around?” Zack suggested, “you feel like going for a quiet evening stroll Goose?”

Goose grinned, it was better than waiting for something to happen.

The two of them set off but they hadn’t gotten far before a Kiwi local ran up to them, “hey Galaxy Rangers take me with you!” he begged.

Goose stared down at him, “where do you think we’re going kid?” he asked in disbelief, “a picnic?”

“You’re going to scout out behind enemy lines,” he replied in awe.

“Look Kiwi we appreciate your concern but …” Goose started to say before he was interrupted.

“I grew up in these parts,” the Kiwi told them, “I know every tree and every blade of grass!”

“It’s too dangerous,” Zack shook his head.

“It’s real safer out here isn’t it?” was the retort.

Ok, Goose was starting to like this kid, “He’s a got a point there Chief,” Goose grinned at his Captain, crossing his arms as he did, “and we could probably use a native guide,”

Zack glanced between them before nodding, “okay kid, let’s go,”

They made it to the enemy location and their guide offered to be a distraction so Goose could sneak up on one of the Android Troopers and knock him out.

“Good one kid,” Goose grinned at him.

“These guys ain’t seen anything,” he declared.

They ran over to one of the crates and hid behind it, observing some weird light power surge happening. Purple beams of light were everywhere.

“What’s going on over there?” Zack wondered.

“Let’s check it out” Goose stated.

They moved closer and saw that the light was coming from the Queen’s Slaver Lord’s. Then Goose spotted someone familiar and his eyes narrowed, “Killbane,” he breathed, “things are starting to get personal,” he growled.

They continued watching and to their horror a huge projection lit up the sky, “Psycho Crystal projection,” Zack breathed.

“I’ve never seen one that size,” Goose remarked.

“We must warn the others,” the Kiwi said and they hurried off back to where everyone was waiting.

“We won’t be able to fight that thing off once it gets going,” Zack stated, they had finished telling everyone what they had seen on their scouting mission.

“A Psycho Crystal projection that size would use up a whole lot of Slaver Lords,” Zozo pointed out.

“But not if she gets more Gherkins,” Doc pointed out worriedly.

“There must be a way to disrupt their power field,” Niko mused.

“There is one way,” a Gherkin pointed out.

“Speak O Pickled One,” Doc encouraged.

“The combined life force of all the Gherkins could produce a force field that could disrupt their psycho crystals,” was the suggestion.

“We’d need a psycho crystal to create a field like that.” Doc stated, “we don’t have anything close!”

“But we do,” the Gherkin replied.

“We do?” Doc was confused.

“We have the Star Stone,” the Gherkin revealed.

“The Star Stone?” Niko echoed.

“The Star Stone and the arc in which it is carried, is the most ancient and most sacred of all Gherkin relics,” the Gherkin told them, “it has been handed down from pre history, even hunted as we are … the star stone has always gone with us. Bring the Star Stone.” He said and two Gherkins came forward, carrying a chest and presented it to him. “Behold,” he opened it and a stone of green energy glittered, he closed it and looked at Doc, “could you channel our life force through the Star Stone?”

“Let me think about this one,” Doc replied.

“But you could all be killed by the effort,” Zack argued. “It would be the end of your species,”

“It will be the end of our species if we fall into the clutches of the Queen, without freedom life is nothing,” the Gherkin replied calmly.

“Okay I may be able amplify the Gherkins life force with a defence shield pylon,” Doc finally stated.

“I thought it was destroyed?” Zack was confused,

Doc grinned, “so does the Queen, get the Gherkins ready,”

Doc and Zack went to work while the rest waited behind, “wait for the signal,” Zack’s command came through their communicator.

Goose and Niko guarded the Gherkins as they channelled their life force into the star stone.

“Here Captain,” Niko replied and Zack’s face appeared in the video link.

“Let’s go Niko,” he commanded and in response the Gherkins sent projected their energy.

Goose watched, arms folded. “Stronger,” one of the Gherkins urged and with one last surge of energy the crystal projection was destroyed. Goose could hear the Kiwis outside cheering.

They quickly overpowered the remaining Android Troopers and Goose took this opportunity to run after Killbane.

“Hey not so fast!” he took off his belt and using it as a whip, latched onto Killbane’s hand to slow him down.

Killbane grunted, broke the belt and activated his bio defences and changed into a reptile creature with spikes, “Gooseman you runt!” He snarled and charged at him, Goose fought him off but soon found himself being knocked to the ground with Killbane’s hands around his throat. With a burst of strength he was able to send him flying backwards.

Killbane replied by firing an energy blast him but Goose was prepared enough to hit his ranger badge and activated his bio defences, the blast bounced off him and Goose transformed into another creature and he and Killbane resumed fighting, Goose managing to get in a few blows. “Your weakness makes me sick!” He roared, aiming to hit Goose with a piece of metal but Goose simply grabbed the piece of metal and flung Killbane to the ground who transformed back into his normal self.

Goose hovered over him, metal raised aiming to strike.

“Go ahead Galaxy Ranger,” Killbane sneered, “why don’t you finish it,”

Goose was sorely tempted but he threw away the piece of metal and transformed back to normal, he glared at Killbane, “you’re under arrest,”

“Come quick! Help!” He was distracted by cries in the distance and Killbane took advantage of that, using his whip to tie Goose’s feet together and Goose crashed to the ground in a thud.

Killbane took off to the nearby ship, threw out the android trooper who was trying to take off and flew off.

Goose stared after his rival, “looks like we’re going to have to settle this some other time,” he remarked before heading back to the village.

He saw the Gherkins lying on the ground, they weren’t moving, he ran over to Niko, “are they all right?”

“I don’t know,” she said worriedly, “they’ve lost a lot of their life force,”

The Gherkin leader stirred, “we Gherkins are a lot tougher than you might think,” he told them.

Even though they had won their victory, it was bittersweet as the Gherkins could no longer remain in their new home, “now that the Queen knows we’re here, we can no longer stay on Kirwin,” the Gherkin leader said sadly, “we need another sanctuary, I feel we must again become wanderers,”
