Longshot/Entropy’s Edge - Monday
Goose’s apartment had mostly survived the cooking lesson, well a couple of the walls were a bit singed but compared to recent efforts that was relatively good progress for him.
The next day Doc had gone to Longshot to work with the recently found Queen’s Memory Bird, named Bubblehead and Zack and Goose had told him they’d meet up with him later.
They approached the Data Library and passed two staff removing a trolley from the room.
“Watch it,” Zack barked as they nearly bumped into them. They didn’t respond and hurried along.
“Everybody’s in a hurry today,” Goose remarked, staring after the staff as they walked into the library.
“Zack!” Goose pointed at Doc who was slumped over by the console.
“Doc are you alright?” Zack asked as they ran over to him.
Doc groaned and they ran over to check, “yeah I think so,” he said, rubbing his neck, “somebody zapped me,”
“What happened here?” Zack wanted to know.
“The memory bird,” Doc looked around the room, “it’s gone!” he turned back to the console and began typing, bringing up the information he was looking for, “a file has been accessed,” he informed them.
“Doc,” Goose said as he read the number of the file, “what’s in file 18?” he had a sinking feeling in his stomach.
“The Supertrooper Juice formula!” Doc exclaimed in horror.
“The formula has been loaded into the bird,” Zack stated.
“Bubblehead?” Doc glanced at Zack, “he has trouble remembering two plus two,” he pointed out.
“We can’t take any chances,” Goose declared, he knew what would happen if that formula got into the wrong hands.
“I’ll alert security,” Zack nodded.
“I’m on it,” Goose told him and pressed a button that would allow him to contact security.
It wasn’t long before they got the sound that there was a security breach near the main gate. Zack and Goose got in a speeder to chase after them, Zack was flying.
“They’ve got a five minute jump on us,” he told him.
“We’ll catch them,” Zack assured him and followed after the other speeder.
They soon had them in sight and saw them pass through a tunnel, “head them off at the pass,” Goose stated.
Zack listened and flew around the tunnel , getting closer to the other speeder.
“Ranger Gooseman to Longshot Wing Command,” Goose spoke into his communicator, “hit them where it hurts, do you copy?”
“Roger Ranger, we’re going in,” came the clear response and soon laser blasts started targeting the other speeder but it wasn’t long before they got out their own lasers and started firing back. They took out the Longshot pilots but not before the pilots managed to eject to safety.
“Hold on,” Zack said and accelerated and once they were closer, Goose stood up and the roof pulled back enough so that he could start firing at the speeder in front. Only for the speeder to return the laser fire and sent their speeder crashing to the ground.
Goose looked at Zack in concern, “you all right?” He asked, Zack seemed a bit dazed but he was still able to stand up.
“Yeah,” he said, “they’re headed for Phoenix Space Port,”
Goose tapped into his communicator, “All channels,” he said, “van last seen on highway 6, headed for Phoenix Space Port,”
They met back at Longshot, Niko and Commander Walsh were already there, “Here’s what the security cameras got,” Walsh stated and brought up the images. “Miller and Moxie, our latest information has them working for Jackie Subtacts mob,”
“Is Subtract still headquartered in New Pagal on Mars?” Zack wanted to know.
“Right, you and Goose will begin a stakeout,” Walsh ordered.
“Got it,” Goose said, nodding with his orders.
“Doc, you and Niko try and isolate the date,” Walsh continued turning to Doc and Niko, “see exactly what they got,”
“Yes sir,” Doc and Niko said at the time.
“All right,” Walsh declared, “let’s move, I don’t want that Supertrooper Juice changing hands,”
It wasn’t long before Zack and Goose were on their mission, “systems’ on, let’s get them,” Goose declared, he was flying this time.
“Easy,” Zack warned, “we’ll trail them,”
They followed the ship to Entropy’s edge, “Entropy’s Edge always amazes me,” he told Zack. It really was a sight to behold, the station just out of reach of a black hole.
“Let’s take a look around,” Zack said.
Goose flew in closer, “What is this a convention?” he remarked, “that’s Kidd’s ship isn’t?” He had been hoping after the last couple of days that Kidd would choose to stay quiet for a while but clearly not.
“Let’s move in,” Zack ordered.
It wasn’t long before they attracted attention and lasers started firing them, “gold boots up ahead,” Zack stated.
“Target’s locked,” Goose declared and Goose started firing back, eventually taking out the main laser.
There was a mass exodus of ships and energy blasts continued all around them, “two on our tail Goose,” Zack told him
“Not for long,” he declared and set their weapons to fire back and destroyed their tail.
“We’re outnumbered,” Zack warned.
Goose smirked back at him gleefully, “so what else is new?”
The laser fire continued around them, “maybe we should revise our plan?” Zack suggested,
“Nah,” Goose stated firmly and continued flying towards the station.
Soon a familiar voice came over the intercom, “Galaxy Rangers Yo Baby!” it was Doc and he took out a few ships around them.
“Just in time, Doc,” Zack grinned.
“Your backup call helped,” Niko replied
“Zack,” Goose suddenly spotted a ship leaving the other way, “someone’s making an end run,”
“Kidd,” Zack stated.
“Rangers,” Macross appeared on their vid screen, “this is Macross we don’t want any more trouble,”
“We want that memory bird Macross,” Goose growled.
“You’re too late,” Macross replied, “Kidd has taken it, he’s headed for Tortuna,” he informed them.
“Galaxy Rangers, let’s move out,” Zack ordered.
“Right behind you,” was Niko’s response.
They were soon catching up to Kidd, “Doc tell them,” Niko was heard saying.
“What Moxie and Miller got was one of the early experimental formulas,” Doc told them.
“But even those early formulas were potent,” Zack pointed out.
“Bubblehead won’t be able to handle it,” Doc replied, “half his circuitry was filled with plumping information,”
“There has been a breach in security, nevertheless” Zack frowned.
“Cut the chatter,” Goose commanded, “warping out,” the ships dropped out of warp. “Kidd’s changing course,” he stated.
“Trouble,” Zack grunted, which was a bit of an understatement.
“Slaver transports,” Goose realised what they were.
“Pull out,” Zack ordered and Goose did as instructed, pulling back so they weren’t near those ships. They waited nearby to see what would happen.
“You think the queen will reward Kidd for bringing her bird home Goose?” Zack wondered.
“I don’t know about a reward,” Goose said, “but I’m sure he’ll get what he deserves,”
